Job Description

Lucas group is retained by our client in the chemical industry to recruit a Senior Process Engineer, Commercialization for their headquarters in New Jersey.  This position is responsible for leading new prototype scale up, development of new process, validation, installation and implementation of equipment at our client's manufacturing sites. The person in this role will work across organizations domestically and internationally to ensure the highest quality of new product commercialization and maximum production efficiencies are maintained in order to execute successful launches against tight timelines to speed up our new product development cycle.


  • Establishes and leads new product commercialization program. Supports continuous improvement process.
  • Develops and commercializes new processes while working close with R&D and operations teams.
  • Leads development of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Writes or reviews and approves process instructions.
  • Responsible for further improving existing process to maintain product property.
  • Supports all scale-up and commercialization activities across the portfolio of new products development from prototype design to product launch.
  • Sets up and maintains a computing formulation system, with calculation and management of property, regulatory and safety information, in conjunction with formula approval and raw material costing.
  • Supports US, Asia Pacific and Europe new technology transfer.
  • Leads product commercialization pipeline program to ensure project schedules and deliverables are met according to the business plan and project charter.
  • Drives smooth product commercialization in cooperation with all areas including raw materials, regulatory compliance and BOM process.
  • Utilizes 6 Sigma and DOE design of experiment tools to conduct ongoing effort for continuous improvement process to reduce production cost.
  • Provides engineering leadership as a member of the R&D team to identify specific processing methods and equipment needed to process new products.
  • Acts as primary liaison between the R&D group and manufacturer during commercialization stage.
  • Responsible for final new technology acceptance and transition to the manufacturer.
  • Leads process capability studies for new product launches in cooperation with the Quality and Operation departments.
  • Assists in developing test methods, performance criteria and other technical procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining suitable laboratory and the accuracy of equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining mixing, testing and application equipment for new product development
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect.
  • Reports and communicates commercialization engineering results to stakeholders within the company.
  • Accelerates product developments via 5 Stage Gate Review process.
  • Generates gate review of product development literature and presents to the steering committee for stage changes.
  • Maintains compliance with ISO 9001 / 2008 requirements for “Design and Development”.
  • Provides annual plan and budget for area of responsibility.


  • 5 Years’ experience working as an engineer in a chemical manufacturing or R&D organization
  • Experience with product development, scale up, and commercialization
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
  • Preferred: Coating or chemical product processing knowledge. 6-sigma certification is a plus
  • Familiarity with various designs of mixing processes including solid-solid, liquid-solid and liquid-liquid systems
  • Strong work ethic and leadership and capabilities as a team leader/participant for assigned projects from inception to completion
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal, written and presentation forms
  • Organizational skills and ability to carry out multiple projects simultaneously
  • Prioritize, plan, manage and drive projects concurrently from development to completion
  • Partner with core functions to drive timely and effective product development and commercialization
  • Must be able to understand technical issues and develop alternate, timely and practical solutions to address complex technical problems
  • Ability to identify challenges and opportunities by gathering, analyzing and interpreting information; establish clear and timely decisions independently
  • Drive the development and refinement of new test methods and characterization techniques
  • Experience with prototype generation, material evaluation and experimental design
  • Knowledge of experimental design tools (DOE, Minitab, DFSS); ability to apply statistics to obtain data based results
  • Interpersonal and supervisory skills. Ability to give engineering guideline training
  • Present required stage-gate reviews and proposals to senior management for decisions
  •  Ability to travel, both domestic and international, periodically
  • Work will require participation in plant trials during any time of the year
