Job Description

Lucas Group is partnering with a growing and dynamic Denver retail company on their search for a Controller. This role will work closely with management and play an integral part in the accounting and finance functions of the company. The candidate will be able to transition smoothly between an array of duties and responsibilities including; financial planning, budgeting, reporting, auditing and supervise the daily operations of the accounting department. This role will also be responsible for operational strategy and execution, including inventory management and opening of new stores.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business with relevant experience
  • 7 years relevant accounting experience
  • 5 years experience managing staff
  • Retail experience highly preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • MBA preferred
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • MMS and Peoplesoft experience highly preferred
  • Thorough technical knowledge of accounting theory, principles and concepts, generally accepted accounting principles and financial systems


Responsibilities:

  • Work with Financial Planning team to supply data, prepare necessary supporting documentation, and validate numbers as part of annual budgeting process.
  • Oversee accounting procedures, internal controls, and accounting database management.
  • Prepare reports summarizing company business activity and financial position in income, expenses, and earnings.
  • Oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including monthly, quarterly and annual general close and accompanying reconciliations.
  • Establish and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operation procedures.
  • Help manage point-of-sale policy and procedures, direct problem solving of issues, communicate updates, and set up new stores
  • Coordinate physical inventories for all retail locations and manage inventory control and accuracy of merchandise inventory and A/P transactions and balances.
  • Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
