Job Description

Our client is a premier provider of engineered solutions and professional engineering consulting services across all engineering disciplines serving clients since the early 1970’s. Approximately 80% of our client’s current business is repeat or direct referral. We take on some of industries most difficult problems utilizing approximately 360 employees, including 215 engineers and have some of the largest testing facilities in the industry. We are seeking a results-driven sales representative to fulfill its opening for a Business Development Manager (BDM) within its base of strategic consumer products, pharmaceutical drug delivery and medical device customers.

The Business Development Manager is expected to actively seek out and engage both new and existing client prospects to increase project opportunities. The foregoing is successfully achieved in partnering with the company’s technical and management staff in a team-selling capacity to connect the needs of the client with a custom tailored solution within the organizations service capabilities. We expect the candidate to integrate and embrace our sales ‘system’ via active and real-time use of Sales Force and formal sales activity planning. Effectiveness of an individual in this role is measured by top-line revenue growth, and customer acquisition levels.



Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in strategic/complex selling
  • Willing and able to travel a minimum of 40-60% of the time, and the remaining time is expected to be in the office networking and building relationships with the internal staff
  • Formal strategic sales training and a proven track record in sales
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and oral
  • Formal presentation creation and delivery skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and sell with business partners
  • Receptive and open to feedback from clients, peers, technical staff, and managers
  • High degree of self-confidence, passion, initiative, and commitment to customer service
  • Strong self-starter
  • Proficient in all MS Office products
  • Technical background (Preferred)


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the technical and management staff to present, promote, and sell services
  • Developing rapport and establishing strategic relationships, both externally and internally
  • Reaching out to client leads in target markets through “managed warm calling”, cold-calling and networking as well as preparing for those outreaches through research, cost-benefit analysis, and direct contact
  • Partnering with the technical and management staff to identify opportunities and to deliver powerful presentations at the appropriate levels within our customers
  • Facilitating and expediting resolution of client problems and concerns to maximize retention and satisfaction
  • Generate project/business opportunities and RFPs through customer contact to achieve mutually agreed upon company business plans and growth strategies
  • Facilitating the proposal process by teaming with the appropriate technical contacts to respond effectively to customer objectives
  • Balancing opportunity development and opportunity closure activities
  • Keeping on top of the latest trends, best practices, strategies, and happenings in the industries that the BDM role supports; Keeping technical staff and management staff informed to ensure effective message and strategy development
  • Weekly, timely reporting to the organization on the state of the region
  • Ongoing commitment to personal development to enhance sales techniques
  • Other duties as assigned
